Thanks Theo for this curve drawing tip. I usually put a 6mm thick piece of wood between a clamp opening to 600mm and squeeze it closed. Works sometimes, breaks others. An improvement to your scheme would be to the vice clamp have a racheting/winding feature so that the user does not have to hand pull the cable, then tighten. I tried a variation on your general concept by putting a piece of threaded rod between the ends of a metal ruler with one end fixed and one end with a nut for adjustments…which turned out to be very laborious and I abandoned the idea. Lastly I suspect any stout nylon fishing line would serve the same function as your SS cable at lesser cost.
